Completed as one of Scotland’s largest houses in the 1770s by the Duke of Gordon, Gordon Castle is the historical home of the Gordons, one of Scotland’s oldest families. The castle was used during the Great War as an auxiliary hospital for soldiers returning from the front and was then sold back to the Crown in 1938 following two successive deaths leaving the family with unmanageable death duties to pay. It fell into disrepair before being ‘rescued’  by Lieutenant General Sir George Gordon Lennox, after World War Two. He was forced to knock down much of the original house due to dry and wet rot, but he and his wife began the loving restoration, which Angus Gordon Lennox (Grandson of Sir George) and his wife Zara, continue today. We went to lunch, took a nice long walk and then later shared some chocolate ganache mousse that I made.

We first met 15 years ago fresh out of grad school, Michele honing her talents as a young architect, and James chasing his “white whale” of a career in the NFL. It soon became apparent that Michele was much more adept at her craft of spectacular design than James was of taking a hit. One tied knot and two kids later, we decided to combine creative forces – bringing together our talents in architecture, interior design, and business.

It is rare to find a designer adept as Michele that has a firm grasp on both the technical aspects and creative aspects of projects large and small. Las Vegas, with a metro area population of nearly 3 million, is one of the largest cities in the country without an art museum. So it was with great fanfare that the city revealed in December that it had approved an “exclusive negotiating agreement” with the Las Vegas Museum of Art to continue work on plans for a proposed 90,000-square-foot, three-story building in Symphony Park.

A word to the wise, if you do choose a grasscloth, be aware there will be seams (note my own dining room pictured above shows the variation in panels/seams) and hair like fibers that won’t be perfectly uniform. The variation is something we like about grasscloth and doesn’t deter us from using it but it’s important to point out if you aren’t familiar with the end result. There are some colors that are coined by certain decades (think oranges and mustard yellows in the 70s, bright neons in the 80s and all beige everything in the 2010s), and there are some colors that have always been in style and aren’t too specific to a time period. These are the colors we look for when searching for timeless wallpapers.
